Optimising ACL Injury Outcomes - Christchurch

Foundation Clinic is excited to bring Mick Hughes to Christchurch, New Zealand 🙌

This one-day ACL workshop provides a comprehensive overview of ACL injury epidemiology and treatment options, including non-operative rehab, pre-op rehab, and post-op rehabilitation phases. The workshop will consist of 8 hours of content, with a balanced mix of theory and practical sessions. Participants will learn about the latest research and evidence-based practices related to ACL injuries and gain hands-on experience through practical demonstrations and case studies.

Topics covered in the workshop will include:

  • Epidemiology of ACL injuries
  • Risk factors and mechanisms of injury
  • Strategies for ACL injury prevention
  • Different treatment options for ACL injuries, including non-operative rehab
  • Pre-op rehab and post-op rehabilitation phases including exercise progressions, and return-to-play criteria

Throughout the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to engage in interactive discussions, ask questions, and share their own experiences and challenges in managing ACL injuries. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a solid understanding of the latest concepts and best practices in ACL injury management and be equipped with practical skills that they can apply in their clinical practice.

Who is Mick Hughes?

Mick Hughes is the co-founder of Learn.Physio and an APA titled Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist. 

After spending 6 years in Melbourne and consulting at the Melbourne Sports Medicine Centre, he relocated to Townsville QLD in 2022 with his wife and young family and now consults at the North Queensland Physiotherapy Centre. He has a strong clinical interest in ACL injury prevention and rehabilitation, seeing approximately 15-20 ACL injured patients a week.

With his passion of improving outcomes in ACL injured patients, he helped develop the Melbourne ACL Rehabilitation Guide with Learn.Physio co-founder, and APA titled Specialist Sports Physiotherapist, Randall Cooper. In the last few years he has also been involved in 3 ACL research projects and has lectured and mentored under-graduate students at JCU and post-grad students at UQ and La Trobe Universities.

Outside of his clinical role and sharing online education, Mick likes the simple things in life and enjoys cooking, drinking good coffee, hiking and spending his time with his wife and young family, and his dog Luna.

  12.15pm - 12.45pm   Practical: Post-Op Exercise
  12.45pm - 1.15pm   Practical: Early Bilateral Exercise 
  1.15pm - 2.00pm   Lunch
  2.00pm - 2.30pm   Practical: Early Unilateral Exercise
  2.30pm - 3.15pm   Lecture: Overview 3-6 months post injury
  3.15pm - 4.00pm   Practical: Return to Running Assessment
  4.00pm - 5.00pm   Practical: Return to restricted training/unrestricted training assessment
