Kia ora! I’m Kahlia Cullwick, a NZL Canoe Slalom athlete currently representing Aotearoa in our Senior and U23 National teams.
Born and raised in Tauranga Moana, I’ve spent my life in the waves—and for the past nine years, on the rivers of the upper North Island, training and exploring in my slalom boats.
Since being selected for the Youth Olympic Games in 2018, I’ve had the privilege of representing New Zealand at Junior, U23, and now Senior levels. One of my favourite moments was this past October, when I won national titles in both K1 and C1 classes. It was after a season out of the boat. I stuck to my process, was gracious & determined & joyful, and magic happened on the water!
I recently returned from my Senior World Cup debut where I placed 30th in World Cup 2 in Pau, France.
My current mid-term goals are to make a World Championship Semifinal (Top 30).
Outside of paddling, I am studying for a BE(Hons) in Mechanical Engineering. I also like to paint, to be outdoors, hike, swim in the ocean, and enjoy connecting with others from all walks of life.
