Don’t Let Sprains & Strains Slow You Down

As winter sport season kicks off, there’s a noticeable rise in sprains, strains, and those early “niggles” walking into the clinic. Rugby, netball, football, running - April is when things start to spike. Not because sport is the problem, but because training loads increase quickly, and the body hasn’t always had time to adapt.

An ankle sprain, sore knee, tight calf, or muscle strain might seem minor at first. But these are often the exact issues that turn into missed games and long rehab timelines when they’re ignored. If something doesn’t feel right, that’s your sign. That “niggle” after training, the tightness that lingers, or the feeling that something is just a bit off. This is the window to act early.

At Foundation Clinic, our focus is simple: keep you training (where possible and potentially with modifications), fix the issue early, and get you back to full performance. Sitting on the sidelines or running water shouldn’t be the default. With the right approach, most people can continue moving and training in some capacity while they recover.

A big part of that comes down to doing rehab properly. Rest might settle symptoms temporarily, but it doesn’t build resilience. Without rebuilding strength and capacity, the same issue often returns as soon as you load it again. That’s why we use physio-led, active rehab, with progressive strength loading, individualised programs, and ongoing check-ins to make sure you’re moving forward each week, not just waiting for things to settle.

Rehab also shouldn’t feel like a “one visit and hope for the best” situation. The best results come from consistency. Regular sessions, week-to-week progression, and accountability. That’s exactly why we offer a weekly physio rate. It allows you to get the support you need, as often as you need it, without worrying about the cost adding up. More contact means better guidance, faster adjustments, and ultimately quicker progress.

We know how frustrating it is to miss out on sport, training, or even just staying active. Our goal isn’t just to treat injuries but to keep you doing what you love. If something’s not right, come in early. We’ll help you stay moving, stay strong, and stay involved.

Don’t let a small injury turn into a big setback. April is the time to act. Book in, get a plan, and stay on track with your training and sport.

Your future self and your team will thank you.
